SKINFOOD SALMON DARK CIRCLE CONCEALER CREAM REVIEW

skinfoodsalmon
Concealer is one of the most important products in our makeup lineups, it’s also one of the trickiest. We all have that seemingly impossible wishlist for our concealers that goes something like: must have great coverage, must not settle into lines, must not be cakey, and must look like a natural under eye concealer.

I, like a lot of other fair skinned people, have dark circles no matter what, leaving sufferes to reach for serums on sites like https://www.buymellow.com/shop/beauty/love-mellow-cbd-eye-serum-10ml-roller-with-50mg-of-cannabidiol/ to save them. Being stressed and tired exacerbates the problem, but even under optimal conditions the purple shines through. That’s just the nature of the tissue thin skin under the eye if you don’t have a lot of colour to block out the blood vessels underneath. As if that wasn’t bad enough, things get a little worse since I’m at the stage in life where fine lines are an issue. That means traditional liquid concealers can migrate into those bastards and make for an unflattering creased look. The problem with a lot of other cream concealers are that they’re cakey as all hell, and scream to the world that you’re wearing very obvious cover-up. It’s enough to leave most people frustrated and hopeless when it comes to finding the right product to get the job done.

Thankfully, I found Skinfood Salmon Dark Circle Concealer Cream. It’s is exactly what it says it is, a cream type concealer that specifically address dark circles. It’s rich, creamy formulation comes housed in a little pot with a screw top lid. I have used quite a few different types of concealer in my time and I have found that formulas geared towards mature skin tend to work best for me, so I was excited to give this one a try.

The texture is buttery and smooth, it melts and softens slightly when it comes into contact with your body heat, which makes it blend wonderfully. It’s a very emollient cream, which is the best news ever if you’re worried about your concealer settling into fine lines. However, this may be a downside for you if you’ll be the subject of flash photography, as the light reflecting properties are exaggerated by the flash. However this can be tempered with a light dusting of powder and it’s not something that’s visible anywhere but in pictures. You won’t notice it during the course of a regular day or night out. The coverage is excellent, the salmon undertones do a great job of cancelling out the blue and purple tones of dark circles.

My only complaint is this is only available in two shades, #1 and #2. I’m using #1 here which looks dark in the pot but actually suits my NC15-NC25 (depending on the season) skin perfectly, no matter if I’m at my darkest or my lightest. If you fluctuate between NC25 and a darker shade, #2 might be a better fit for you, depending on what you’re going for (some people like a might lighter concealer shade under the eye, some like natural).

The wear time is great, it’s never let me down and lasts throughout my day and into the night. Although, I do not have oily skin, so I can’t vouch for it’s performance if that’s your condition. But as far as normal to dry skin goes, this does have great lasting power. I really love this product! It’s a totally different animal than the Missha concealer I reviewed before, this is a thicker, moisturizing, type product that will serve me well in the upcoming Fall/Winter seasons. I’m so glad I gave it a try! Without a doubt I will definitely be repurchasing this item. With it’s well under $15 price tag and stellar performance, how could I not? Well done, Skinfood!

VDL EXPERT COLOR LIP CUBE MOISTURE REVIEW

VDL
VDL Expert Color Lip Cube Moisture SPF10 is one of those products that I just knew I’d love before I even received it. Those of us buying skincare and cosmetics from Korea while in another country might know what I’m talking about. You see a product and it’s so absolutely gorgeous and you’re in love before you ever even get it in your hands, then you just wait excitedly for your new beauty to arrive. Wait, that sounds way too much like an old creeper describing his mail order bride, but my point still stands!

The standout cube shape of this lipstick is what first called my name, then the knockout shades available is what pushed my fingers to click Add To Cart without hesitation. The novelty of a square lipstick was something I wasn’t entirely sure about, but I knew I wanted to give it a shot. It fit in perfectly with my obsession over geometric shapes so of course I was coming for this beauty.

While I was waiting for my impulse purchase lipstick to arrive I started researching it like crazy. I found this video featuring the most adorable girl demonstrating it in the exact shade I had decided to get, #105 Pink Positive, a gorgeous red heavy hot pink. It starts at about 1:20

Then finally, it arrived, and oooooh baby yaaaas slay me. As soon as I got that baby on my lips I knew it was everything.
VLDswatch

I was delighted to find that the pointed edges are actually really freaking handy for application. It helps you work that cupid’s bow area like a pro. As you can see in the video above, this is a big substantial lipstick. If you have thinner lips, you’re probably going to find you need a lip brush for this one. However, if you have fuller lips like me you’re going to be very appreciative of the size. In addition to being sizeable, the packaging also feels heavy, weighty, expensive, and luxurious. Fitting, because so does the actual lipstick itself. It’s super creamy and moisturizing while giving you deep rich colour. You can tell this is a high end luxury cosmetic immediately. It’s amazing! As if that wasn’t enough, it also has a faint gorgeous floral rosy smell. The wear time is average, it’s not a long lasting stain but goes on so generously that it wears well and stays true as long as you’re not eating or licking your lips. I didn’t even mention the SPF10 yet, not a huge amount but better than nothing and I wish more lip products would include an SPF. Other than that, this stuff is just all around great. I want them all. There are five shades available, all various shades of pink, but Pink Positive is such an awesome shade choice. It reminds me of Rihanna’s Pleasure Bomb lipstick from her limited edition MAC collection, only deeper and richer.
VDL also has another edition of Lip Cubes that are not in the Moisturizing line (although, I would argue that they could be, I have a few and they’re not drying or anything) with eight equally gorgeous shades that are pretty perfect for the upcoming Fall/Winter season. I’ll have to give them a quick review soon for you guys!

PERIPERA PERI’S CUSHION LIPS REVIEW

Peri‘s Cushion Lip tint review

My lips are finally in a state where I can properly review lip products again! First up is this fun little lippie by Clio’s little sister brand, Peripera. It’s called Peri‘s Cushion Lips. It comes in a plastic tube and it’s delivery system is the ever popular cushion sponge tip. While it might seem unwieldily at first if you’re not used to cushion products, I have a serious soft spot for this and all cushions out there. To use you simply squeeze the tube and the lipstick snakes out onto the cushion, from there depending on what look you’re going for you either tap the cushion onto your lips, or spread it on the lips like butter. One of my favourite parts of the cushion tip is the ease with which you can build opacity or control the colour if you’re looking for a more sheer look. The cushion is soft, very reminiscent of the material used for doe foot applicators but with slightly more give and cushier. With some squeeze lip cushion products (I’m looking at you, Etude House Rosy Tint Lips!) squeezing the tube was difficult as the contents housing was too stiff, but this one is a whole hell of a lot easier to control compared to others. There are eight different shades to choose from and I chose shade #4, PKo7, here’s how it looked:
PERISCUSHIONLIPSSWATCH2

The finish is a velvet type cream, so be sure you have well hydrated lips and a good lip balm to prepare your canvas, otherwise your dry skin bits will get magnified and clung to.The wear time is average and this does transfer, if you’re looking for a long wearing stain this is not it. You have to be vigilant with upkeep but not overly so. I’d say it has more lasting power than a typical cream bullet lipstick but much less so than a stain.  What really stood out for me was the delightfully cheerful colour. It’s a perfect tropical wash that reminds me of hibiscus juice! I’ve wore this colour out recently to a Caribbean festival parade and got several compliments on it. It’s bold and fun without being garish or over the top. From the pictures I’ve seen online I wasn’t expecting the colour to come out the way it did so it was a wonderful surprise! Overall I would recommend this product, especially if the other colour choices are as lovely as this one. In my opinion this is a far superior product to the Etude House cushions tints I’ve tried, and a fun option.

ETUDE HOUSE LOCK N SUMMER COLLECTION REVIEW

etudehouselocknsummerWe’ve got a serious case of good twin bad twin dynamics going on with the two things I selected from this collection. Since I’m a good news first type of person, I’m going to start by talking about the star of two.

Etude House Lock’N Summer Cushion Blusher
If you’re at all familiar with the cushion delivery system for bb creams (which if you’re a regular reader here, you know I’m a big fan of) then you’ve got the concept for this product down. It’s a liquid blusher with sponge delivery system, applied with a silicone round puff. The formula is perfect for this set up, the blush is a sheer watery liquid that imparts a perfect natural flush on the cheeks. It has a slight dewy sheen that gives a lovely subtle glow. I chose shade PK001 which I absolutely love! It’s a lovely pink that’s not too bubble gum or too garish. This blush is extremely sheer when applied, I wouldn’t recommend it for nighttime but it’s perfect for daytime when you just want that hint of flush. I think the extremely pale skinned folks for which blush tends to run clownish would really appreciate this colour and formula. It gives you a sheer wash of pretty colour without being like “OMG look everyone! Someone punched me in my face with blush!”. The wear time is normal for me, but to be fair, I do not have oily skin. It lasted throughout the day though, the only time I noticed that it didn’t was on a particularly hot day when I walked 10 actual miles, but that’s a hell of a stress test for a product. The lone complaint I have about this blush is the packaging. It has a screw lid and I feel it would have been better suited to a flip top type compact like we see with BB cushions. The product itself is A+ for what it is, the packaging is a let down. The screw lid and plastic separater that this is housed in seems awkward, especially given that they did use the cushion eyeliner in this collection in a compact type package.
etudehouselocknsummerswatch1Which brings me over to this next nightmare of a product.

Etude House Lock’n Summer Proof 10 Cushion Lock’n Liner

Ugh, trash. I’m really hoping that I just got ahold of a faulty batch or something because the idea of Etude House releasing this into the buying public is embarrassing. This cushion liner comes with a brush and a miniature compact style case. The idea is novel, and should have been wonderful. A cushion eyeliner! I mean, c’mon, that sounds cool as hell. To bad it was a hot mess. I ordered shade BK801 DJ Black. By all accounts this should have been a lovely deep black, unfortunately the eyeliner I received doesn’t just drag on the eyelid when applied, it won’t even apply, period. I pressed a million times with increasing pressure into the cushion but try as I might, I could not get the brush (or any of my brushes) to pick up enough colour to apply to my eyelids. It applied somewhat on the back of my hand for swatches, but was a giant bust of nope when I tried to use it as it was intended. I was really disappointed and upset with this product. This is the first negative review I’ve given, so you know that this thing had to be particularly awful. The packaging and colour selection for this stuff was great too! Too bad the actual product was a dud.
