O.S.T VITAMIN C SERUM, REFRESH/REBRAND SALE!

ostreview
I’ve sung the praises of O.S.T. Original Pure Vitamin C Serum before, it’s one of the first things I recommend to my friends when they ask for help with their skin. With 20% pure vitamin C it’s one of the products that’s most important in my regime. I noticed I was running a bit lower on it than I’m comfortable with and went to search for it to buy a new bottle. I discovered they’ve changed their name! Nothing else has changed but the name thankfully, so say hello to C20 Original Pure Vitamin C20 Serum! The best part though? It’s currently on sale at Wishtrend for the best price I’ve ever seen it, $16.99 PLUS for the next 24 hours they’re offering FREE SHIPPING! If you’ve been on the fence about trying this one out (don’t be!) or are in need of a new bottle, I’d grab some now, the manufacture date is 7.20.14 so it’s super fresh, it doesn’t get any better than this!

I had a chance to play with these this morning, and I really dig them! They are on par with the quality of the Mac Holiday travel brush sets I’ve gotten in the past (but a lot more reasonably priced). The hot pink wooden handled brushes have metal ferrules and come in a sleek little black glitter travel pouch. Each set contains six brushes, including a gel liner/point eye shadow brush, duo fibre powder/highlighter/blusher brush, highlighter/eye shadow brush, a blusher/shading/highlighter angle brush, a slanted brow/gel liner brush, and a cool little retractable double ended lip brush with a concealer brush on the other side. My favourites are the lip/concealer brush and the duo fiber ones so far. I was in need of a good little portable set and this one fit the bill perfectly!

PERIPERA PERI’S CUSHION LIPS REVIEW

Peri‘s Cushion Lip tint review

My lips are finally in a state where I can properly review lip products again! First up is this fun little lippie by Clio’s little sister brand, Peripera. It’s called Peri‘s Cushion Lips. It comes in a plastic tube and it’s delivery system is the ever popular cushion sponge tip. While it might seem unwieldily at first if you’re not used to cushion products, I have a serious soft spot for this and all cushions out there. To use you simply squeeze the tube and the lipstick snakes out onto the cushion, from there depending on what look you’re going for you either tap the cushion onto your lips, or spread it on the lips like butter. One of my favourite parts of the cushion tip is the ease with which you can build opacity or control the colour if you’re looking for a more sheer look. The cushion is soft, very reminiscent of the material used for doe foot applicators but with slightly more give and cushier. With some squeeze lip cushion products (I’m looking at you, Etude House Rosy Tint Lips!) squeezing the tube was difficult as the contents housing was too stiff, but this one is a whole hell of a lot easier to control compared to others. There are eight different shades to choose from and I chose shade #4, PKo7, here’s how it looked:

The finish is a velvet type cream, so be sure you have well hydrated lips and a good lip balm to prepare your canvas, otherwise your dry skin bits will get magnified and clung to.The wear time is average and this does transfer, if you’re looking for a long wearing stain this is not it. You have to be vigilant with upkeep but not overly so. I’d say it has more lasting power than a typical cream bullet lipstick but much less so than a stain.  What really stood out for me was the delightfully cheerful colour. It’s a perfect tropical wash that reminds me of hibiscus juice! I’ve wore this colour out recently to a Caribbean festival parade and got several compliments on it. It’s bold and fun without being garish or over the top. From the pictures I’ve seen online I wasn’t expecting the colour to come out the way it did so it was a wonderful surprise! Overall I would recommend this product, especially if the other colour choices are as lovely as this one. In my opinion this is a far superior product to the Etude House cushions tints I’ve tried, and a fun option.

ETUDE HOUSE LOCK N SUMMER COLLECTION REVIEW

etudehouselocknsummerWe’ve got a serious case of good twin bad twin dynamics going on with the two things I selected from this collection. Since I’m a good news first type of person, I’m going to start by talking about the star of two.

Etude House Lock’N Summer Cushion Blusher
If you’re at all familiar with the cushion delivery system for bb creams (which if you’re a regular reader here, you know I’m a big fan of) then you’ve got the concept for this product down. It’s a liquid blusher with sponge delivery system, applied with a silicone round puff. The formula is perfect for this set up, the blush is a sheer watery liquid that imparts a perfect natural flush on the cheeks. It has a slight dewy sheen that gives a lovely subtle glow. I chose shade PK001 which I absolutely love! It’s a lovely pink that’s not too bubble gum or too garish. This blush is extremely sheer when applied, I wouldn’t recommend it for nighttime but it’s perfect for daytime when you just want that hint of flush. I think the extremely pale skinned folks for which blush tends to run clownish would really appreciate this colour and formula. It gives you a sheer wash of pretty colour without being like “OMG look everyone! Someone punched me in my face with blush!”. The wear time is normal for me, but to be fair, I do not have oily skin. It lasted throughout the day though, the only time I noticed that it didn’t was on a particularly hot day when I walked 10 actual miles, but that’s a hell of a stress test for a product. The lone complaint I have about this blush is the packaging. It has a screw lid and I feel it would have been better suited to a flip top type compact like we see with BB cushions. The product itself is A+ for what it is, the packaging is a let down. The screw lid and plastic separater that this is housed in seems awkward, especially given that they did use the cushion eyeliner in this collection in a compact type package.
etudehouselocknsummerswatch1Which brings me over to this next nightmare of a product.

Etude House Lock’n Summer Proof 10 Cushion Lock’n Liner

Ugh, trash. I’m really hoping that I just got ahold of a faulty batch or something because the idea of Etude House releasing this into the buying public is embarrassing. This cushion liner comes with a brush and a miniature compact style case. The idea is novel, and should have been wonderful. A cushion eyeliner! I mean, c’mon, that sounds cool as hell. To bad it was a hot mess. I ordered shade BK801 DJ Black. By all accounts this should have been a lovely deep black, unfortunately the eyeliner I received doesn’t just drag on the eyelid when applied, it won’t even apply, period. I pressed a million times with increasing pressure into the cushion but try as I might, I could not get the brush (or any of my brushes) to pick up enough colour to apply to my eyelids. It applied somewhat on the back of my hand for swatches, but was a giant bust of nope when I tried to use it as it was intended. I was really disappointed and upset with this product. This is the first negative review I’ve given, so you know that this thing had to be particularly awful. The packaging and colour selection for this stuff was great too! Too bad the actual product was a dud.

DAMOAE THERAPY SHAMPOO & TONIC REVIEW

damoaeshampooandtonic

Wishtrend was kind enough to send me over a product, the likes of which I’ve never reviewed before, a shampoo!

I’ll give you a quick introduction from their website before I get to my thoughts and experiences

“What is DAMOAE?Damoae is made of natural Chinese medicinal herbs that can be ingested, and there for is not harmful to the body. This product is patent proven to increase hair count as well as effectively treat dandruff and has been approved by the KFDA as a hair loss prevention product that increases hair growth and thickness.

If the problem of hair loss gets to a point where it is clearly causing aesthetic or other issues for someone, with visible bald spots and clumps of hair falling out at a time, then it could prove prudent to consult a hair specialist or opt for a natural-looking neograft hair transplant. While that is always an option, there is definitely no harm in first trying out herbal shampoos such as Domoae or other remedies either!

Damoae consists of 17 natural herbs used in Chinese medicine, including dried orange peels, aloe, and peppermint. These ingredients work together to perform the most ideal medical action on the scalp to prevent hair loss and treat dandruff at the same time. Adult men suffering from hair loss and who fear they are going bald may wish to take a look at the meds available at Blink Health as things like finasteride are often used to treat male pattern baldness.

By continuously using Damoae, you can see improvement in the following areas: hair loss, dandruff, scalp itchiness, seborrheic dermatitis, damaged hair, and more! You’re scalp will feel clean and your hair will feel luxuriously thick and smooth!”

My first thought was “Whoa, this sounds right up my alley”. I had yet to try any Korean shampoo, and with all of this fanciness and natural herbs ingredients, I couldn’t have asked for a better first try. It almost felt like I was going to be using Salon Hair care products because it just appeared very professional and it was something new; I always link that to going to a salon because they always have new products to try. So, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at what exactly is contained within this bottle:

Ingredients

CitrusUnshiuPeelExtract, Mentha Arvensis Leaf Extract, PolygonumMultiflorumRootExtract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra(Licorice) Root Extract, Citrii Unshiu Immature Peel extract, Lycium Chinense Fruit Extract, Lycium Chinense Roof Extract, OenotheraBiennis(EveningPrimrose)SeedExtract, AloeBarbadensisLeafExtract, DisodiumLaurethSulfosuccinate, SodiumCocoylAppleAminoAcids, CocamidopropylBetaine, Pyrithione Zinc, biotin, nicotinamide, DisodiumEDTA, d-panthenol, Citrus Paradisi(Graperuit) Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Polyquaternium-10, Glycerin, SilkAminoAcids, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, OenotheraBiennis(EveningPrimrose)Oil, CamelliaJaponicaSeedOil, 1,2-Hexanediol, L-menthol

Much like Korean skincare regime, this shampoo also comes with some rather detailed instructions to follow. Notably that this shampoo does not require an additional conditioner afterward. I was skeptical about that, especially with the state my hair was in. Up until about a year ago, I had been bleaching my hair every 7-8 weeks for five years! Pretty much the most brutal thing you could possibly do to hair and I was doing it on the regular. My hair held up fairly well, but it was definitely beat to hell by the end of things. Even now I still lighten my hair, my natural shade is many, many shades darker than what I am now and I have a bit of an ombre effect on the ends, so even though I’m off the hardcore bleach I’m still not totally virgin (and never will be haha). What I’m trying to say is, my hair has been strugglin’, and it could always use some help. When I fist pumped out the product, I took inventory of the smell. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it smells vaguely like lemons and a swimming pool. I know that’s an odd descriptor but that’s what I always think of when I’m using it, and it’s not unpleasant! I’m into the smell. Following the instructions I double washed my hair, by the first rinse I could tell they weren’t kidding about not needing a conditioner. My scalp was tingly clean yet my hair was incredibly moisturized. By the second washing and rinse I was cursing myself for not trying a Korean shampoo sooner, much like the way I felt when I first tried Korean face products.

When I towel dried my hair, the next step was to try the Damoae Therapy Tonic as per the instructions

“How to use

After shampooing with DAMOAE’s Therapy Shampoo, towel-dry your hair. Shake DAMOAE’s Therapy Tonic 3-4 times. Spray a moderate amount all over scalp. Using your fingertips only, lightly tap all over your scalp to increase absorption.

Generally, this essence is used morning and evenings. However, if you like the setting effects of this essence, you can use it throughout the day.

Using a wooden bristle brush that gently massage your scalp will help with absorbing and activating the ingredients in the essence.”

damoaeshamp

After blow drying my hair on low heat (sorry, I can’t do no heat or air dry, my hair is way too unruly for that) my hair had a lovely glossiness that is usually reserved for after the application of silicone serum products. It had a nice weight to it as well, and I don’t mean a build up of heaviness, almost like a newfound plumpness of the hair shaft. It wasn’t weighted down, it was more like it just tamed the fly-aways and dryness.I will say, the smell of the shampoo is a lot more pleasant than the tonic, which smells highly medicinal. However, it is not a smell that lingers in the hair, it dissipates quickly. I did detect a slight tingle the first few times I used this tonic, and I trace that back to the salicylic acid that’s listed first in the ingredients

“Ingredients

salicylic acid, L – menthol, D-pantenol, Citrus Unshiu Peel extract, polygonum multiflorum root extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Extract, Mentha Arvensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra(Licorice) Root Extract, Citrii Unshiu Immature Peel Extract, Lycium Chinense Fruit Extract, Lycium Chinense Roof Extract, Ethanol”

I’ve been using this shampoo for a month now and while I don’t have any real hair loss or dandruff, which is something these products target, I can speak to it’s power as a highly invigorating, nourishing shampoo and tonic. I got three compliments on how healthy my hair looked within the first week of using it. No kidding. The first one was the second time I’d used the shampoo and from my friend Ginette who remarked that my hair looked “so shiny and great” while we were eating a ramen lunch. Two more friends said similar things in the subsequent days following. I even asked my husband what he thought and being the wordsmith he is he replied “shiny!” lol. I had no idea what to expect going into this review but it’s been a pleasant surprise! I’m very happy with this shampoo and tonic!Damoae Therapy Shampoo and Tonic are available individually at Wishtrend or can be purchased as a set where you will save $10 on the overall cost. If the $68 price seems steep, keep in mind Aveda’s new Invati line, which is almost the exact same idea as this shampoo right down to it’s inclusion of salicylic acid (but without all the great natural ingredients and herbs) retails for $114!
