Due to an incident with contamination that caused a lot of problems in some people’s skin, I now recommend that you all explore the COSRX brand Aloe Vera Oil Free Soothing Gel . If you’d still like to buy it and want to read this review, please feel free, I will leave it up. But personally I cannot guarantee the safety of the Benton brand. At the time of this review, the contamination had not yet come to light.

This gel is another star in the Benton line. Like the toner I reviewed before this little green wonder is comprised mostly of aloe leaf juice which has solid proven skin benefits. Let’s take a look at the ingredients and see what we’ve got here.

Ingredients:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (80%), Propolis Extract (10%), Glycerin, Arginine, Allantoin, Betaine, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Cross Polymer, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract

Ingredients are listed on products from the most to the least and next up we have propolis extract. If you’re not familiar with it you might be wondering what the hell propolis extract is. If you’re an idiot like me you heard the word propolis and wondered if they had distilled the essence of some ancient Greek amphitheater but no, propolis is actually a product that bees produce. Propolis is the stuff that keeps the hive from rotting and keeps the germs at bay. It has antibacterial properties and has been used in natural medicines and biomedical research for it’s attributes as an antioxidant, an emollient, and as an antimicrobial. So propolis is actually pretty rad stuff and you want it on your face. I’d also like to point out that this gel touts it’s “8 free system” as they put it, which means it’s free of 8 gnarly things you don’t want in your skincare which are parabens, mineral oil, alcohol, benzophenon, chemical preservatives, steroids, artificial fragrance, and artificial colouring. Another thing that really stands out to me is this product is water free! Go grab your nearest moisturizer or product and read the list of ingredients, go on now, go head, I’ll wait. Ok, are you back? Look at that bastard. What’s the first ingredient? It’s Eau isn’t it? If it’s not Eau then it’s Aqua, and if it’s not Aqua they went the plain route and just said Water. Eau, Aqua, Water, same difference and that’s the #1 most prominent ingredient. The Benton Aloe gel replaces water with aloe leaf juice! So it’s just that much more moisturizing and high quality. I definitely agree with their claims that this product is for every single skin type. It holds benefits for every one across the board and that’s pretty impressive. Sensitive skin will love this because of how soothing it is, oily skin will love how light it is, dry skin is going to love how moisturizing it is, and every skin is going to love how much it nourishes. This is a little skincare gigolo and it’s got thrills for everyone.

The fragrance is pretty much nonexistent and it only carries it’s natural aloe scent. Now, I had someone bring to my attention that the other natural aloe products they’ve used in the past were too sticky and they wondered if this, and the aloe toner reviewed earlier, were sticky as well. I can tell you this product, as well as the Benton BHA Aloe Toner, are absolutely not sticky at all. The texture is a light clear gel that glides onto your skin and absorbs pretty quickly upon application.As far as it’s moisturizing benefits I would say that an oily skin type could probably get away with using this alone as their primary moisturizer. Personally I use it in my regime along with the Benton steam cream (another upcoming review). I adhere to a Korean skincare routine which I will write about in detail later but basically the bones of it go like this: cleanser-toner-essence-gel-cream. If it’s summer and you’re oily you could forgo the cream. I myself have a normal to dry skin type and I’m in the midst of a harsh dry winter right now so I couldn’t get away with the gel only. I’m going to venture to say though in summer months I probably could. One suggestion though that I took from the wonderful http://www.skinandtonics.com/ blog is to squirt out your product and add a few drops of argan, maracuja, or baobab oil to your gel for that extra oomph. I do that now and I really love the results.So the Benton Aloe Propolis gel would be a good asset to your skincare team, and with the impressive resume it has behind it you should be hiring.

Welcome to my first review!

Benton is a small new company out of South Korea that has beauty bloggers buzzing. I suppose that buzzing is appropriate since two of the offerings out of their four product line actually contain bee venom.

To start I’m going to need you to throw out everything you think you know about toners. If you’re not familiar with the Korean version of a toner, it’s a soothing and moisturizing skin treatment. It’s not your American stinging, dry out your skin, alcohol laden burn festival. You’re probably used to getting your traditional toners from the drug or department stores with the aim of purification and drying up excess oils, that’s not what this stuff is about. This one aims to gently eat up the dead skin cells blocking the way of your fresh skin underneath while preparing it for your moisturizer. After using this toner your skin isn’t a dried out tight piece of parchment paper, it’s a plump moisturized (but not oily!) canvas waiting to receive the rest of your routine. The Benton BHA toner contains salicylic acid which is a natural chemical exfoliator. Chemical exfoliators are much gentler on your skin than manual scrubs and are a great way to get you on the road to a brighter complexion. If you have sensitive fussy skin don’t let that scare you, this toner is extremely gentle. I have very reactive skin and this goes on like a dream.

The first and second ingredients are derived from the aloe plant. What could be more soothing than that? People have used aloe’s healing properties for centuries. As a small child I remember running to my Grandmother after scraping myself and staring in wonder as she broke off a leaf from the huge plant she kept and applied it’s juice to my booboo. I was used to the stinging hell of Bactine spray and was in awe of how relieving the aloe was. I want nothing less for the delicate skin on my face.

The toner itself is clear and has no fragrance at all. It’s thicker and has more viscosity and slip than just plain water. The preferred application of this toner seems to vary from person to person. Some people have found that the spray nozzle on the container Benton delivers this in is a bit harsh. I myself when first trying this out went to give myself what I thought was going to be a gentle mist of toner only to blast myself in the face with a concentrated stream of it. I think this was some sort of cosmic karma for all the times I’ve sprayed my cats in the face with a water bottle for being little assholes. What I’ve taken to doing is spraying two or three pumps into my palms and then massaging it into my face. This works out really great because part of my skincare routine uses another product that I find to be quite sticky (O.S.T Vitamin C serum, I’ll get to that review later) so the toner cuts it perfectly and makes a great delivery system. Plus, it’s a great way to use the excess on your neck and décolletage which so often get neglected in the daytime hurry and get out the door/nighttime hurry up and get to bed hustle.

Now to get to the meat of this review. Does this stuff work? My answer is a resounding yes. It really does. Give this stuff a whirl, I really doubt you’ll regret it. A lot of people I know have traditionally skipped toners because they either don’t see the benefit in them or they don’t like the way they dry out their skin. This toner is a whole other animal, and it’s an animal you need to add to your menagerie right now!
