KOREAN BEAUTY SECRETS: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO CUTTING-EDGE SKINCARE AND MAKEUP

KBSTBW
It’s officially official, we wrote a book! Like an actual one, that you can hold, and buy, and that would look so incredibly cute on your coffee table.

I’m going to take the words from my co-author and soul sister Kerry (Skin & Tonics), and let her give you her take on it before I put in my two cents 😀

We set out to create a book that would be useful, interesting, and fun for complete newcomers to K-beauty as well as the more experienced, and I wholeheartedly believe we accomplished that task. It has everything you need to know to assemble a Korean style skincare routine, including :
• Detailed information on each skincare product categories
• How to assess and address your skincare needs
• Tips for determining layering order
• Shopping and ingredient cheat sheets organized by skin concern
• Ingredient definitions
• Detailed example skincare routines by several of our favorite bloggers
• Nearly 250 English-Korean ingredient translationsIt also features:• An amazingly thorough makeup section that provides detailed descriptions of all the different makeup categories
• Guides to achieving some truly beautiful Korean-inspired makeup looks.
• A lot of gorgeous photography

One area where Coco and I were particularly fortunate is that we were given full control over the book’s content and design. Being given design control is not typical in the traditional publishing industry, so this was a really big deal for us! Coco art directed the photoshoots, and I handled the layout and information design. We both developed the cover design. The finished product is a beautiful, glossy, full-color, hardcover. If you don’t want to wait for November to order it, you canpre-order it on Amazon and receive it the day it’s released (November 3, 2015).

I’m so excited to introduce you guys to this book. It’s coming out in Nov, but like Kerry said above, it’s available on Amazon right now for preorder, which you can also access via the link on the sidebar of the homepage. I’m so proud of everything and I’d like to give a special shoutout to the stellar team we put together to bring you this baby. Truly, it was a labor of love, and I think you might love it just as much as we do.And like I said, it’s going to set your coffee table off so very nice 😉

NATURE REPUBLIC BOTANICAL CUSHION GRADATION TINT REVIEW

nature republic cushion gradation tint header
Today I have a quick review for yet another lip product. However, it does have an interesting concept. Nature Republic Botanical Cushion Gradation Tint is both a spot on and a misleading name. It does have a cushion on the end to make a gradation look, but I wouldn’t call the actual product a tint. The formulation is a creamy matte. It’s thicker than a gloss, I’d say it’s somewhere close to the neighborhood of a liquid lipstick. And even though it’s a matte, it’s velvety matte, not a super powdery dry finish. You don’t have to worry much about having a perfect canvas. This is somewhat moisturizing for a matte and has some interesting ingredients including rosehips, lavender, and hibiscus flower extracts. There is no stickiness or gloop and the formula glides on nicely. It’s available in 10 shades but I chose the shade #2 Dallae Beige, which turned out to be nothing even close to beige. I’d say it’s more like a brick pink.

The packaging is that of a normal lipgloss on one end, but on the other end you have a cushiony sponge to spread out the product after swiping it on with the gloss wand. You can use this to achieve the popular Korean gradient lip, or just smudge the colour out all over.

The first lips are shown wearing the product full force and the second lips show what it looks like smudged out with the cushion.

The wear time is average for a lippie. Nothing outstanding, nothing horrible. Just a perfectly adequate product with some nice ingredients. If this lip cushion were a student she’d be a C+ average girl who’s name you always forgot. I like that this keeps my lips comfortable without any stickiness and I like the concept of the sponge tip but I wouldn’t say this is a must buy. Thus, I give Nature Republic Botanical Cushion Gradation Tint 3.5 out of 5 turtles.

NATURE REPUBLIC PROVENCE TWO WAY PACT REVIEW

naturerepublicprovencetwowaypact

With my dry to normal skin, I realize I’m not the best person to review a powder, but I wanted to test drive a more matte face than I normally do and this fit the bill.

The Nature Republic Provence Two Way Pact SPF50+ PA+++ is a powder in a pretty, floral, geometric compact. I would be lying if I said I didn’t choose this one on design alone. Don’t judge, you know we’re all guilty of that from time to time 😉

There’s not a whole lot to say about this product honestly. It’s available in two shades, #21 light beige and #23 natural beige. Here I have #21.

The powder is sheer and does a nice job of setting your bb cream or foundation. I don’t really get much shine in the winter time so I can’t really speak to it’s oil control properties but I can say my face stayed very matte all day. This also claimed to be somewhat moisturizing, which was good news for my skin type. I’m not sure if it actually was, but it certainly wasn’t drying. If your skin is in good condition I could see this being used on top of your sunscreen on lazy days when you don’t want to do full face makeup. And of course as always, I’m a big fan of the high SPF protection this provides. In addition to that, I love that this contains rose hips and rosemary extracts. As with most Nature Republic products, it’s also free of parabens, mineral oil, and benzophenone.

I’m super neutral about this product. I don’t love it or dislike it, but that’s how I feel about all powders.

I do love the compact’s design though, and I will hang on to it as a mirror. Powders are way out of my comfort zone but as far as this one goes it’s pleasant, smells nice, has some interesting ingredients, a high SPF, and did it’s job. I guess I’ll have to give this 3 out of 5 turtles.
