IOPE AIR CUSHION XP REVIEW

IOPEBBCUSHIONXP

Hello gorgeous Beauty Pups! I’m back with a look at another BB cushion. Today’s review is Iope’s newest offering, the Iope Air Cushion XP SPF 50+/PA+++. Apparently this is a revamp of their prior air cushion with an improved formulation. I have shade C21, Natural Vanilla (that sounds like the world’s worst R&B group). The C in C21 stands for Cover, as this has more coverage than the other options, which are N for natural and S for Shimmer. As with the majority of Korean bb creams this comes with extremely limited colour options, 21 being the lightest and 23 being the darkest.

Iope was one of the first companies to release a BB cushion onto the market and helped the trend catch fire in Korea. It’s been established that I’m a huge fan of BB cushions, the one I reviewed from Holika Holika sealed the deal for me. However, the Iope cushion is a higher end brand. If Holika Holika is Covergirl then Iope is Lancome. I’m not always a proponent of “expensive is better” but I came across this cushion on sale and knew I had to give it a try. It’s your typical cushion in that it’s a compact that comes with a silicone sponge and has a divider protecting the stamp pad like cushion underneath. What I did notice right away upon opening it was the weight, it’s so much more sturdily constructed than the Holika Holika compact, which is the be expected I guess. Another thing that was a really pleasant surprise is that it comes with a refill and additional sponge! Since this is roughly double the price of the cheaper brands, it almost ends up balancing out in the end once you factor in that you get two products with this for slightly more than the cost of two cheaper ones.

I must say, this formulation lives up to the hype. It imparts that dewy glow that I’m addicted to yet it has none of the stickiness that can sometimes come along with it. Once it’s on your face is almost feels like a matte formula but it still looks like a glowing one. I’ve really never encountered anything like it and I’m in love.
iopeaircushionxpswatch
Despite being billed as a higher coverage product, I’d say the actual coverage on this is just about medium. It didn’t do a lot to hide an angry red mark I had from a run in with a prescription retinoid (don’t ask) but it did cover my faint hyper-pigmentation spots. What it did do was give me a beautiful ,soft, even skin tone. You would still have to break out the concealer for serious blemishes, but for mostly even skin this is a stand alone product. I’m also in love with the fact that this comes with the super high SPF of 50, always a plus for me. I should also mention the scent, it has that pleasant floral smell that is typical of high end brands but it fades away upon application.
The wear time on this for me was the entire day long. Although, as I’ve mentioned before, I have a dry to normal skin type. I don’t really have problems with oil making my makeup disappear so YMMV. Although with the light airy almost matte feel I do think oily skins will appreciate this product. Even though I can’t speak to it’s sebum control properties, it does seems like it will be a good fit for everyone! The literature on this product claims that it is sweatproof. I plan on wearing this to the Kanye concert I’m going to next week so that should tell you I’m comfortable enough with it’s performance for harsh (glorious) conditions. I have no idea what outfit I’m wearing yet, but I know for sure what my face will be wearing. The Iope Air Cushion XP SPF 50+/PA+++ certainly deserves the full 5 out of 5 turtles.

HOLIKA HOLIKA FACE 2 CHANGE LIQUID ROLLER BB REIVEW

holikaface2changeliquidrollerbb
Continuing with the unique Holika Holika BBs, we have something today that’s way, way out of the box in terms of a delivery system. The Holika Holika Face 2 Change Liquid Roller BB is a BB cream in probably the most unusual packaging I’ve ever seen. It’s housed in a hard plastic tube with a sponge roller at the end. You press the button on the side to dispense the product onto the sponge, then you roll it across your face like a paint roller to apply.

Now, if I can be honest with you for a second. I may or may not have initially bought this product because of how much it’s design reminded me of a stun gun.

face2changeliquidrollerbbwut

See? I mean, really. It’s like a stun gun of bb cream for your face. How has no one else seen the similarities yet? ;)Getting down to the nitty gritty of this product, although it is very unique, it’s also a bit unwieldily and awkward to handle. I ended up having to blend it with my fingers in some tight spots. This is from the Face 2 Change line like the Moist Cushion BB I reviewed earlier, but the finish is totally different. This is more of a matte and doesn’t give that beautiful glow that the cushion bb gave me. This also tends to cling more to dry patches. I think this would perform well for an oily skin type, especially those who appreciate a matte finish and oil control.  This is available in two shades, #1 and #2. I got shade #2 which is slightly too dark for my skin but would do well for Summer time. I think this is a medium type coverage but I didn’t want to try to build on it as it was already clinging to my dry areas. Also I should mention to those worried about hygiene, the roller sponge is removable and can be cleaned.
HOLIKAHOLIKAFACE2CHANGELIQUIDROLLERBBSWATCH

I have to be honest. I don’t love this product. I mean, it’s not a bad product. It just doesn’t work for me. I’m usually all for weird things but this one isn’t all that user friendly for me personally. The formulation isn’t necessarily bad either, I just think I’m a glow junkie and between the two I really prefer both the delivery system, and the glowing finish of the Moist Cushion BB. Still, this is a nice matte bb cream if that’s your thing. I also think the fact that I’m a drier skin type and this is obviously geared toward oily skin is a factor in my not loving it. This could very well be someone else’s HG BB, but for me I’m going to go with three out of five turtles.

HOLIKA HOLIKA FACE 2 CHANGE MOIST CUSHION BB REVIEW

Face2ChangeMoistCushionBB

Ahhhh. Breaking into a fresh bb cream. Is there anything more satisfying? I feel like an alcoholic poppin’ the top on my first beer of the day, but without all of the self loathing and liver toxicity.

Holika Holika Face2Change Moist BB Cushion is part of a huge trend in Korea right now, cushion bb pacts. The cushion compact concept is pretty straight forward, but none the less magical. (Can you tell I’m a big fan?). What you get is a standard compact, a silicone sponge (like the one in the Etude House Nymph Aura Volumer Baby Glow Balm), and a divider protecting the product. Once opened you remove the protective sticker, then you see this neat little porous “sponge” type pad. I think pad is a better descriptor than sponge, think more along the lines of an ink pad and less like a dish scrubber. Next you simply press the provided silicone applicator into the ink pad and it dispenses the bb cream onto it. Then you lightly stamp it all over your face to apply. I find stamping is a better delivery than dragging with these things.

face2changemoistcushionbbpic

See? Cooooool. I got shade #21 Light Beige, which is the lightest of their two shade offerings. It has a pink undertone which would normally not work for me but as is the case with most bb creams, this oxidized and blended perfectly into my skin colour. The finish is glowy and gorgeous. The coverage is a buildable light to medium. The wear time for me was all day, although as I’ve mentioned in past reviews, I’ve never had a problem with makeup melting off my face as some do, so YMMV.face2changemoistcushionbbswatch

It’s so convenient and handy. Love these things. As always I greatly appreciate the super high SPF 50 PA+++ this provides. Of course it’s no substitute for your regular sunblock but it’s nice to know it’s there. Just about every major Korean brand has their version of a bb cushion. They range the gambit from the ultra high end to the ultra cheap. Holika Holika is one of the cheapest ones but it’s quality is still excellent. Holika Holika Face 2 Change Moist BB Cushion gets a very respectable 4.5 out of 5 turtlesUPDATE: It’s now called Holika Holika Face 2 Change Photo Ready Cushion

NYMPH AURA VOLUMER BABY GLOW BALM REVIEW

NABBBrThis is one part review, one part explanation of a trend in Korea that goes against a long held cardinal rule for North American makeup; shine.
First I’d like to start by addressing the dewy skin trend of Korea. Actresses and Idols in Korea popped up everywhere with this ultra dewy, smooth, new baby skin sheen that was almost plastic-like it was so flawless. People went nuts for it and a major makeup trend was born. Every company came out with products to produce this glowing dewy skin. Liquid facial glow, bb cream boosters, highlight products, and even powders flooded the market. I’m going to do an in depth comparison review of many of them as soon as a package I’m waiting for gets here but in the mean time I’m going to show you the easiest and most subtle way to test drive this trend for yourself.

Etude House released it’s Nymph Aura line which was a huge hit and my first introduction to the look. I first saw the Nymph Aura Volumer on one of my favourite Korean cosmetics YouTube review channels and ordered one a couple of years back. A “Volumer” is just a liquid you mix with your bb cream or apply alone as a highlighter to achieve the dewy look. I loved the stuff and when I saw Etude House released a bb cream balm with the volumer already swirled in I knew I had to try it out. I’ve always loved the balm type foundation and lord knows that as a busy person I love a shortcut. If you grew up anything like I did you spent your life covering yourself in powder trying to get the mattest skin possible and living in fear of any oily sheen. Shine was a bad word. The aim of this trend is to enhance and celebrate the youthful glow of young skin. After drilling it into our heads that shine is bad this may be a big leap for you. Instead of covering every inch of your face in powder, adding a product that will create more shine seems almost crazy in theory, but it’s really beautiful in practice. The trick to this look to get the glow without looking greasy is how you do it. What keeps it from being overboard is that you only add this sheen to key areas of the face (T zone, cheeks, cupid’s bow, and middle of the chin) and then boom, instant glowing ‘baby skin’. The Volumers and booster products are highly concentrated, however, the Nymph Aura Volumer Baby Glow Balm is much more subtle so it can be applied all over. It’s mixed in a ratio of 8 to 2, where as the straight Volumer should be a 3 to 1 ratio, so this is suitable for all over and not just the key areas. As you age (ugh) you notice that your glow starts to fade, by mimicking the glow of younger skin, this is a perfect way to add a more youthful look to your face.NAswatch4I love the packaging of the balm itself. As you can see it comes in this compact with the product in a compartment and a little permanent divider that keeps the sponge from just sitting in it. And the sponge! That just may be my favourite part! They call it the Aura Air Puff and it’s a silicone sponge that feels almost like one of those neoprene knee braces (lol I can’t think of anything else this texture). It’s so soft and awesome and is such a genius delivery system! You can pat on the bb balm with the air puff for a heavier coverage or if you want to go for the ultra subtle thing you could apply this with a brush. I’m hooked on the air puff though. It’s so fast and has such a luxurious space age feeling, I love it. The bb balm has a rich creamy buttery consistency when swiped. Like I said before I’m partial to this texture. It has the volumer swirled in as you can see in the picture so you swipe it in a circular pattern to mix the two products on your puff/brush. What I really appreciate about the volumer is it’s not just a throw away skin product, this has actual good stuff in there! It contains my ultimate skincare homegirl argan oil and amino sugars, so we have antioxidants and skin nourishment all up in there actually doing something instead of just being purely cosmetic. Another great thing is the bb balm is a whopping SPF42 PA+++. Awesome.naswatchI have this in shade #1 and #2. As you can see in this swatch #2 looks too dark on me but once it’s blended out it actually melts right into my skin colour.
NAAswatchThe super fair skinned who have trouble matching up shades will love #1. Even in winter it’s just a touch too pale for me but it looks good used on the T-zone and cheekbones when utilizing the contouring application technique. As with most bb creams due to the way it blends in with your skin #2 would fit a pretty large swath of fair skinned folks anywhere between NC15-25 I’d say. They also offer a #3 shade that’s a tad darker. Since this is a Korean brand they don’t really have any shades for the dark skinned ladies out there unfortunately :(My one complaint with this is the same one I have for all Etude House bb creams, this really clings to dry dead skin. Make sure you’re thoroughly exfoliated and hydrated if you’re going to rock this stuff. You’d think that with the inclusion of the argan oil and the consistency of the balm it wouldn’t, but it really does pick up on any flakes you might have. Other than that this stuff is pretty wonderful and an easy, fast, and understated way to dip your toes in the Korean dewy baby skin look!
